The Wiener Concert-Verein is a renowned orchestra that stays true to the Viennese sound while blending the classical with the contemporary. It was founded in 1987 by musicians from the Vienna Symphonic as a free-standing chamber orchestra and has played seasons at legendary Viennese musical associations whilst also touring regularly in Austria and abroad. It has developed a classical / romantic repertoire and promotes contemporary compositions, making more than 120 premieres and showcasing talented young musicians as well as international conductors.
Here in Zug, the Wiener Concert-Verein will be playing a special programme beginning with a work by Marianna Martines, one of the most important Viennese female composers of the Mozart era. This will be followed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s «Concerto No.10 for two pianos in E-Flat K 365», featuring internationally renowned Zug-resident pianist and long-time piano teacher at the Hochschule für Musik and Theater in Munich Margarita Höhenrieder, as well as Finnish pianist and teacher at the Sibelius Academy Antti Siirala.
Ferruccio Busoni honours Mozart with the «Duettino Concertante», a virtuoso interpretation of the finale of K 459, which shines a new, unusual and brilliant light on the spirit of the original. «Cristián en el Tortoni» by Françoise Choveaux then plunges us into the sensual world of the Buenos Aires tango courtesy of bandoneon player Sébastien Innocenti, before Joseph Haydn’s «Symphony No. 43 in E-Flat major «Mercury» brings this concert experience to a surprising yet fitting conclusion.
